The process of development that begins with secondary school is thought to be somewhat different for Type A girls. The developing female Type A is thought to channel her internal struggle for approval into succeeding in friendship circles. Most females are discouraged by society from showing aggressive, openly competitive behavior. Many such children therefore learn to channel this energy into what may become a competitive quest to be perfectly popular with peers and to become the perfect caretaker of others' needs. Unfortunately, the standards of evaluating success in being a caretaker are not clear; no trophies or report cards are given for this activity. Lack of clear validation of the female Type A's efforts adds more fuel to stress.
